For the past several years I have all but abandoned the site that accompanies this page that has grown to just under 1,300 amazing people. Thank you all for your part in our fun, family-friendly (and most importantly to me, and most of you, I'm sure) drama-free community of Penguin fans. It truly means the world to me that I've been able to share the excitement of hockey from my perch high above the Mellon Arena / Consol Energy Center / PPG Paints Arena ice. Unfortunately, that's where I must announce a change in this page's direction.
I started this page because I was bored and frustrated with all the name-calling, condescending armchair GMs and general Angry buffoonery on just about every other hockey page I followed. It has grown more than I ever anticipated, and for that, I am extremely grateful. My goal was always to give a little bit of the action of live hockey to those of you who, for many reasons, could not enjoy being at a Penguins game. Now, due to unforeseen and untimely events, I have had to give up my season tickets that I've had since 2005 when Sid was the kid, and I was a junior in college. Because of this, I can't give you the experience of sitting right next to me cheering on our boys anymore.
I still eagerly invite, and enthusiastically request that you continue to share your experiences here, but now, I'd like for you all to participate on the soon-to-relaunch website, www.thepensandthepen.com as well. Both sites will work in tandem with each other, much like oaur beloved MAF did with Matt Murray to win two straight Stanley Cups.
So what's with the Monty Python reference to a change you ask? I'll tell you...as long as you're still reading this long, rambling post.
Remember that satirical piece I wrote during the playoffs about Ottawa signing simpleton/trident assassin Brick Tamland? I'll be doing more stuff like that. Kind of like the Onion except hockey-related...and original...and funny...sorta...I hope.
I'll still try to get to as many games as possible, and when I do, it will be the typical posts we've all grown to know and love, but without my tickets enabling me to live-stream, post pictures and the in-arena atmosphere every other night, I figure I have to redirect my efforts or go dark. You wouldn't want that, would you? Right? Guys?
I very much intend on having the site up and ready to go before the start of the season. I may be doing a test run before the official launch, if you're interested in participating let me know.
Thank you all and I hope you like the new direction. Feel free to suggest any story ideas too!
